How to attract Ruby-throated Hummingbirds

Picture

I  use both hanging and window feeders to attract Ruby-throated Hummingbirds. Just make sure you place your feeders high enough to prevent domestic predators from snatching the birds while they  dine.

Feeders must be kept clean.   You should wash a feeder every time before refilling.   Use one part chlorine bleach to 10 parts hot water to clean your feeder.  Rinse  thoroughly.

Nectar Solution Recipe
Four parts water to one part white granulated sugar
(¼ cup of sugar for every cup of water)

Bring solution to a boil, stir until sugar is dissolved, let cool & fill  feeders
Do NOT use molasses, honey or artificial sugars
There is no need to add red food coloring
Change feeder solution every three to four days to avoid mold (I do more often)
